Will Ray Free In-Store Appearance!

In 1990 Will and Jerry Donahue had an idea; why not put together a band that played nothing but guitar music with three way guitar harmonies? Jorgenson’s name came up and a few weeks later the three did a show for Ronnie Mack’s Barndance at the world famous Palomino Club as The Hellecasters. A year later Michael Nesmith caught the band and offered them a record deal on Pacific Arts Records.

The Hellecasters’ critically acclaimed first album, The Return of the Hellecasters, became a hit with guitarists and was awarded “Best Album” and “Best Country Album” by Guitar Player Magazine in 1993. In 1995 the Hellecasters’s recorded and released their second CD, Escape From Hollywood, which again took guitar playing to a new dimension. That same year Hipshot products began marketing an invention of Will’s called the Stealth Slide, allowing guitarists to switch quickly between slide and fingers on a guitar. Hipshot also began manufacturing the Will Ray Model B-Bender for guitar. In addition, Will released two guitar instructional videos, B-Bender Mania and Stealth Slide Technique for Rambo Videos.

Few guitar pickers can out-slide, out-bend or out-torture a Telecaster the way Will Ray can. As a member of the pyrotechnical twang trio The Hellecasters, Will has created a place for himself among some of the world’s guitar greats.

Join us for a special evening with Will Ray, up close and personal!

Experience Hendrix: 2010 Tribute Tour

The 2010 Experience Hendrix Tour is set to take to the highways of America this March with stops in 19 cities from coast to coast at some of the nation’s most historic live concert venues. Experience Hendrix,  the fourth edition, biennial concert tour featuring an all-star line up of music greats paying homage to the music and legacy of Jimi Hendrix, launches March 2010 with special performances across the country.

Featured artists who will be performing music written and inspired by Jimi Hendrix include some of the best known and most respected artists in contemporary rock and blues — Joe Satriani, Jonny Lang, Eric Johnson, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Brad Whitford (of Aerosmith), Doyle Bramhall II, Ernie Isley, Living Colour, Double Trouble’s Chris Layton, along with bassist Billy Cox. Cox, who first befriended Hendrix when the two were in the 101st Airborne division of the US Army, played in both the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Band of Gypsys and performed with Hendrix at such landmark festivals as Woodstock and the Isle of Wight. Cox commented, “It’s a thrill for me to play Jimi’s music for audiences now as it was in the 1960s. The Experience Hendrix tours have shown how timeless this music really is.” Joe Satriani remarked, “I finally get to pay tribute to my hero the right way, on stage with an amazing, once in a lifetime line up of musicians!” Sacred Steel featuring Robert Randolph, Susan Tedeschi and David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas of Los Lobos are also performing on selected Experience Tour dates.

The tour coincides with the release of a new Jimi Hendrix album entitled “Valleys Of Neptune.” The newly compiled album consists of 12 fully realized studio recordings, and more than 60 minutes of music never commercially available. Centered around tracks recorded during a pivotal and turbulent four-month period in 1969, Valleys Of Neptune unveils the original Jimi Hendrix Experience’s final studio recordings, as the group lays down the foundation for its follow-up to Electric Ladyland, alongside the guitar superhero’s first sessions with bassist Billy Cox, an old army buddy he’d recruited into his new ensemble.

“Valleys of Neptune” has long been one of the most sought after of any commercially unavailable Jimi Hendrix recording and sees it’s debut nearly forty years after Jimi finished recording the track at New York’s Record Plant in May of 1970.

Other highlights on Valleys Of Neptune include blazing studio covers of Elmore James’ classic “Bleeding Heart” and Cream’s “Sunshine Of Your Love” as well as premier performances of original Hendrix compositions like “Ships Passing Through The Night,” “Lullaby For The Summer” and The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s the original un-dubbed rendition of “Hear My Train A Comin’.” Also included in Valleys Of Neptune is “Mr. Bad Luck,” a Jimi Hendrix Experience track, produced by Chas Chandler during the 1967 Axis: Bold As Love sessions.

Epiphone Clinics At Sam Ash Music

Join us for an entertaining evening as Epiphone presents Jimmy Jackson and Craig Owens.  Through a performance of multiple musical styles and stories from their careers as touring and recording musicians, Jimmy and Owen touch on the quality, build and unique features of Epiphone’s top selling products

Jimmy Jackson has recorded and performed with artists as diverse as Lindsey Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac), English rocker Steve Marriott, Cajun legend Jo-El Sonnier and songwriter/producer/author Michael Nesmith. He has written and produced songs with number one Nashville songwriter Dean Dillon and Grammy winning composer/drummer Ricky Lawson (Yellow Jackets, Eric Clapton, Baby Face). He has been published by Acuff-Rose in Nashville and VIG Music in L.A. Jimmy stays busy as an “in demand” independent music producer as well as doing soundtrack work for films and television. He is also the “band leader” for Michael Nesmith’s VideoRanch (www.videoranch.com) an “in world” live performance venue where his band “Ranch Dressing” performs to a worldwide interactive audience. Go to http://www.videoranch.com log on and then click on VR3D and enter the only “live, real time entertainment site” in the real or virtual world. Jimmy recently signed with Rio Records and is presently finishing a solo album produced by Michael Nesmith. It will be an 11 song journey into the world of legacy blues, futuristic landscapes and big bottom grooves in a genre Nez calls “Bluestronica.”

Craig Owens was born in Detroit, grew up in Florida and later in Los Angeles. Mom & Dad were both classically trained instrumentalists, as well as talented vocalist. Craig was raised on everything from Bach to rock, with Duke Ellington & Bill Monroe thrown in for good measure. Some of the many artists Craig has played & recorded with include Michael McDonald, Taj Mahal, John Denver, Tom Scott & Mary McCaslin. After college Craig studied at the Theo Verlin School of Voice in Los Angeles. Having survived several near miss “Hollywood record deals” Craig moved to Santa Cruz, California. There he met Columbia Recording Artist Lacy J. Dalton. After hearing him perform, she immediately asked him to join her band. He has enjoyed the last 19 years of non-stop touring, writing and recording with Lacy J. Dalton and the Dalton Gang. Most recently Mr. Owens has been working with musician, author, movie and record producer (Repo Man – The Hellecasters) Michael Nesmith and the band Ranch Dressing on the real life stage of Video Ranch. VR3D as it is known to people around the globe is an online, in world, real time, live performance stage on the internet.
